Welcome to our November 2012 issue of Plurilinkgua. We have some interesting contributions that we received from teachers and students in the field of language teaching and learning. First, we present you a teaching technique elaborated by a graduate of the BA in English Teaching at UABC: Ricardo Orozco Nayen. In the articles section, we present three interesting essays submitted by three professors from the UABC Language School: Nahum Samperio, Margaret Ann Hogan and Oscar Rubio. The first is an interesting reflection of the way this teacher learned English in relation to the literature about motivation and anxiety in language learning. The second article tells us about intelligibility in English learners. First, the author defines the term intelligibility and then discusses the factors that affect pronunciation when learning the language. The last article tells us about the use of the iPhone in language learning.

We appreciate your visit to Plurilinkgua, and encourage you to keep on reading us, and to contribute by sending your unpublished techniques, activities, articles, book reviews and academic events reviews.

Welcome to our May 2012 issue of Plurilinkgua. We have some interesting contributions that we received from teachers and students in the field of language teaching and learning. First we present you two teaching techniques elaborated by two students of the BA in Language Teaching at UABC: Felipe Dominguez and Karla Berelleza. These contain ideas you can apply in the classroom. The first deals with reading and writing comprehension; it is based on the idea of writing from a model. The second is an activity in which the student can develop his vocabulary by drawing which will benefit kinesthetic students. Furthermore in the articles section, we present you a research study and an essay submitted by two professors from the UABC Language School: Yolanda Del Castillo and Oscar Rubio. The first reports on findings on e-mail usage by students enrolled in the BA in Language Teaching. The second article is a revision of literature about the proper use of technology in language courses and it provides with useful practical ideas that can be implemented in the classroom. We also share with you a review of the book: Nuevas estrategias para la enseñanza de la ortografía. Lastly, in the Academic Events section you will find an interview with Dr. Magos of the Autonomous University of Queretaro, who gives us his opinions about the teaching and learning of languages. We hope these contributions are useful in your academic work.

In this new November issue of Plurilinkgua we would like to share with you the contributions we received from teachers and students. First, we present a teaching technique designed by Professor Cesar Eduardo Carrillo. It is about mental images to increase vocabulary in a foreign language. This is a creative idea that can be implemented in the classroom without any problem. This time we included 3 academic papers in the articles section, 2 of them are reflection essays. The first one was written by Jesús Amparo López and Adriana Silva, they highlight the advantages university students have when a foreign language is spoken.

These authors support their judgments with research studies about university students who need to become linguistically competent in a second language. The second article by Priscilla Núñez, is a revision of the most important methods and approaches employed in foreign language teaching which have allowed the expansion and professionalization of language teaching. The third paper is about translation issues, its accessibility for vulnerable groups . We also include two reviews of materials about language learning: the CD Rencontres Interculturelles and the book Learning new languages. a guide to a second language acquisition. At the end we added a full paper of a lecture delivered at that 29th National Convention and 6th Central American and Caribbean Convention- MEXTESOL, Monterrey, NL., on October 18th in 2002. We hope you find these contributions helpful for your academic practice.

We appreciate your visit to Plurilinkgua, and encourage you to keep on reading us, and to contribute by sending us your unpublished techniques, activities, articles, book reviews and academic events reviews.

You are welcome to our spring number of the magazine Plurilinkgua. In this issue we share with you an interesting activity that promotes English learning and allows the development of oral production through an interesting topic: “Moral dilemmas,” a problem solving activity that helps students interact in an enjoyable and entertaining way.

Next, you will find two articles aimed at language teachers. The first one, “MP3 and the language teacher” by Oscar Rubio, includes interesting ideas about the uses of the MP3 in the language classroom. The second one, “Teachers or writers, why not both?” by Myriam Romero, helps us reflect on our job as language teachers and our responsibility to write about our experiences and publish them.

Finally, you will read a book review of Side by Side Plus 1 written by Karla Rangel, a B.A. Language Teaching alumnus, who presents her opinions about this popular English text book.

We appreciate your visit to Plurilinkgua, and encourage you to keep on reading us, and to contribute by sending us your unpublished techniques, activities, articles, book reviews and academic events reviews.

The Faculty of Languages feels honored to present Plurilinkgua, our very own academic magazine, which means the link of languages. Its name was envisaged by a group of teachers while talking to each other in one of our corridors. Our mission is to join people who are interested in applied linguistics in the same academic forum.

In addition to that, the objective of this magazine is to allow researchers, teachers and students in this field to spread their work in original and peer-reviewed contributions.

Through Plurilinkgua, we hope to share with you the following:

  • Language teaching activities and techniques,
  • Original, articles related to applied linguistics,
  • Book reviews,
  • Academic events: papers that were not published in the proceedings of the event and reviews of academic events.

Plurilinkgua accepts original contributions that will be reviewed by peers with experience in the subject matter. Revisions will be made within a maximum period of three months. The magazine will be published in two versions, in Spanish and English, with complete contributions available in both languages; therefore, you are invited to send the two versions if possible. Plurilinkgua will be issued every six months by the end of May and November.

I would like to invite everyone who is interested in this field to visit our web site and to share his/her techniques, articles, book and event reviews in this academic cyber space. I welcome you and ask for your participation in Plurilinkgua. Make it yours!

Sincerely,
